what is mean by: "..can be thought of as arising from G by "collapsing" the subgroup N to the identity element. It is written as G/N.?
- That's a real sloppy way of saying the canonical homomorphism of G to the coset space of a normal subgroup N gives rise to a group with the coset N being the identity element. Phys 19:09, 28 Sep 2003 (UTC)
