Talk:Lists of television channels

Al Jazeera needs to go in here somewhere. But it doesn't fit in well to the nation-based lists. How about a list of worldwide TV channels for Al-Jazeera, CNN (which is also not on the lists), MTV, etc.? -- Hotlorp

What's the difference between this page and Television station? It appears they might be candidates for merging, no? -- Wfeidt

Massive problems

[edit]

OMG. Seems the current state of the various "television channels" / "television stations" pages is pretty dismal. Someone needs to create a WikiProject to whip these pages into shape. Needed work includes the following.

  • Standardize page titles:
    • "Station" or "channel" (or both, depending)? (called <whatever> below)
    • Pick one naming convention (adjective and noun refer to place names):
      • "List of African television <whatever>s"
      • "List of Africa television <whatever>s"
      • "List of television <whatever>s in Africa" (I recommend this one)
    • Name pages that only point to other list pages, "Lists of..." (i.e., plural, not singular).
    • Move pages and #REDIRECT, as appropriate.
  • Use bulleted lists when possible; use pipe syntax for tables.
  • Decide what kind of "see also" links should be on each type of page (country, state, city...) and standardize that.
  • Place appropriate Category designations on each page. (In fact, categories should be used as much as possible to reduce the need for direct linking in "See also" sections.)

I really have no desire to take a leading role in this project myself; I just got sucked into trying to improve some of the pages and then discovered the true dimensions of the problem. I'm getting out now, while I still can...

BTW, to see some indication of the problems I'm talking about, poke around the various "list" pages at Category:Lists of television channels. - dcljr 02:48, 14 Aug 2004 (UTC)

Add to the list: What is a "television channel"? Is it a frequency? A contract (if so with whom)? Where do "channel number"s (as in the US) fit in?

i am not sure the page follows wikipedia standards

[edit]

there is a piece at the bottom of the page about a kashmiri chnnel,,,about azad kashmir(pakistani side of kasmir) which looks like more of a propaganda or advertisement than genuine info...

Bangladesh

[edit]

I reverted additions by an anon of Bangladeshi tv. I did not label it vandalism, I reverted mainly because of poor format. I will NOT added with good format because I know nothing about Bangladeshi tv, so if the info is false, I do not want to be part of it. I will inform the editor so that she can add properly. Yeah, the Lists of television channels by language section contains a link to List of Israeli television channels, which contains stations in Hebrew, English, Russian, Georgian, and probably Arabic, as well as mixtures of the above. Gzuckier (talk) 19:27, 28 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
