Wikipedia:WikiProject Pharmacology/Structural diagrams

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a guideline to help authors in creating sufficient chemical structure diagrams to be used in drug-related articles for WikiProject Pharmacology.

How to

[edit]

Molecular structure diagrams used in drug-related pharmacology articles should be created using a molecule editor program, such as ChemDraw, ChemSketch, or ISIS/Draw (ChemDraw and Isis/draw are commercial software packages, ChemSketch is freeware. Another freeware package that may be used is WinPLT. Some more experienced users may prefer to use markup languages, such as PPCHTeX or XyMTeX.

The carbon backbone of the molecule should be drawn out using lines, with indicated functional groups and heavy atoms drawn in as appropriate. Show stereochemistry as necessary as well (see the Tetrahydrocannibinol example, bottom right).

All images should be saved using Scalable Vector Graphics. PNG format is also acceptable. All structures are being moved to commons, so ideally all new structures should be saved direct to Commons using a {{PD-chem}} permission.
