This is from the Library of Congress, Country Studies.

The copyright notice says: "Information contained in the Country Studies On-Line is not copyrighted and thus is available for free and unrestricted use by researchers. As a courtesy, however, appropriate credit should be given to the series."

It will need editing, and there is more text available that could be added. I hope this is OK, I've not added text from a source like this before - let me know if I've done it wrong!

Are the hisabetsu buraku the same as the burakumin? If so, perhaps the articles should be unified. --FOo
