Can I translate the German article? de:Dialer

Just asking in case somebody objects this - I don't want to do the work, then have it removed. ;)

I translated almost all of it. Have fun! :) -- Tomcat 13:01, 27 Mar 2004 (UTC)

Regarding section Installation routes

[edit]

Can you please cite or at least state the following sources for

"Starting in 2003, new Visual Basic-scripts install a trojan horse which changes values in the Microsoft Windows registry and sets Internet Explorer security settings in a way that ActiveX controls can be downloaded from the Internet without warning. After this change is made, when a user accesses a malicious page or email message, it can start installing the dialer.[emphasis added]"

I need to do more research on this topic. Thanks.

Is this really necessary? It does not strike me as particularly relevant to this article. I'd love to take a whack at trimming it down if no one minds. Steelswords1 (talk) 03:27, 18 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Proposal to addition

[edit]

I propose you to add site to the listing www.modemguard.net It contains the software for dialer blocking.

point of view

[edit]

i don't like how the article uses 'your phone line' and others like that, doesn't sound like an encyclopedia article.

Biased POV

[edit]

In view of Wikipedia's NPOV policy, I think that the following line should not mention Microsoft Windows specifically.

"The providers of such dialers often search for security holes (usually in Microsoft Windows)...".

I have edited the line to be more neutral:

"The providers of such dialers often search for security holes that may be present in the operating system installed on..." Pavithran 12:36, 12 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
