"Highest outside Himalaya"

[edit]

I corrected the claim that Gongga is the "highest out of the Himalaya", which is close to true, but not quite. First, the Himalaya don't actually include the Karakoram (except in very loose, nontechnical usage), so I put "Himalaya/Karakoram" instead. Also, Kongur Tagh and Tirich Mir are higher than Gongga. --Spireguy 03:13, 3 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

German books

[edit]

I moved the German books to "Further reading" since they didn't appear to be used as actual sources. (I wrote most of the current text, and it is from the sources listed in "References".) If I'm missing something, please respond. It's also unclear how useful these books are for the English version of Wikipedia, but I won't delete them. -- Spireguy 02:27, 5 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Highest by Americans

[edit]

I'd like to see a reference for the claim that Americans achieved a higher summit than Gongga Shan before 1958. Which one(s)? -- Spireguy 15:10, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I doublechecked with the Himalayan Index and I don't believe the claim at all. So I'm reverting to the previous version. -- Spireguy 16:53, 7 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Easternmost Peak

[edit]

" It is the easternmost 7000 m peak in the world " From where? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 68.61.190.218 (talk) 21:39, 29 April 2007 (UTC).[reply]

Gongga Shan lies to the east of every other 7000 m peak. I.e. it is the peak with the most easterly longitude in the world. (Since all 7000 m peaks are in one region of Asia, there is no real ambiguity related to going all the way around the world--was that the source of the confusion?) -- Spireguy 19:10, 30 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Confusing Statement about Elevation

[edit]

The text has two instances where 7,590 meters are cited, while the info box has 7,556 meters. But I cannot find any reference to this number in the text. I had expected to read something like "team X produced a new measurement Y in year Z, correcting the elevation to 7556 meters." What gives? 79.228.151.148 (talk) 14:13, 3 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]
