Ibid.[edit]
I don't know if the person who wrote the existing material is still watching the page, but a change I made (replacing Eicher with a citation from Eisenhower) demonstrates why WP:IBID discourages use of this abbreviation. Things can and do get moved around or inserted between existing references on a wiki, so it can easily get out of order. One of the footnotes was already in this predicament when I got here. :) Recognizance (talk) 12:50, 16 August 2009 (UTC)
Correction needed[edit]
A sentence leading to a quote under the Mexican-American section does not make sense. Scott stated he had just risen from "at about 6 PM as I sat down to take a hasty plate of soup". In my rudimentary English I feel there is something missing that he had risen from which might also lend meaning to the quote. I can not view the source so can someone look at this? Legacy: Scott's Connection to Riverside, IL[edit]
Scottswood Road in Riverside, Illinois is supposedly named for General Scott because he and his troops camped in the area while traveling west during the Blackhawk War. I believe this is mentioned in "Riverside then and now; a history of Riverside, Illinois" by Fuller, Spencer Samuel, 1873-; Ripley, Vernette Snyder, Mrs; Hoefer, E. O. C., Mrs; Mitchell, Catharine A; Miller, Henry A., Mrs; Bassman, Herbert J. Published 1936 165.124.32.116 (talk) 18:35, 5 June 2017 (UTC) D. Murphy
Removal of flags and insignias from multiple info boxes[edit]
User Huberthof has been getting around these past couple of days with his newly created account, and seems to be on this mission to remove flags and insignia from numerous articles, mostly those of American military people. This users cites a guideline about flags in infoboxes (which btw says nothing about insignia), but ignores the fact that every guideline stipulates "It is a generally accepted standard that editors should attempt to follow, though it is best treated with common sense, and occasional exceptions may apply.". Famous military people are such exceptions. Other editors have taken exception to this apparent mission to remove flags and insignia, mostly from the articles of prominent Americans, as evidenced on Huberthoff's Talk page. Imo, we should return these items to the infoboxes. Some of these articles, like George Washington and Ulysses S. Grant have had these items when they were approved for GA and FA status, with no issues all of this time. -- Gwillhickers (talk) 21:31, 21 June 2017 (UTC)
Inaccurate map[edit]
Also, the map is inaccurate. Morrisburg is in Ontario, west of Montreal. As well, there was no settlement at all in Ottawa at the time of the War of 1812, which makes the map misleading. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2607:FEA8:BF60:6AA:8081:B1A5:5430:24EA (talk) 16:44, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
