Untitled

I would be awfully tempted to try and find a different picture to illustrate this novel (i.e. a cover from a different edition), since this one's a bit of a spoiler for the ending! 84.12.14.232 02:02, 31 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I have no trouble with the choice of a first edition in dust jacket, but there has to be a better image to use … Susie Brooke (talk) 18:13, 15 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism

[edit]

I do not have sources to hand, nor do I understand how to properly cite them on Wikipedia. However, I do know that this book is criticized today on a couple of counts. Foremost is its handling of sexual orientation (the murderess is a lesbian) as a signifier of a warped personality. Hallelujiah Dawson has also been criticized as a racist caricature.

Since this page is tagged as LGBT-relevant, some discussion of that element of the plot and theme would be useful in improving the article. It could be handled neutrally enough through pointing out that Ms. Sayers was writing at a particular time where issues of race and sexuality were not as well understood. 68.0.100.180 (talk) 06:14, 26 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I've added one sourced comment on this. There seem to be many reviews of the book and its themes, if anyone wants to get into this novel in more detail. MichaelMaggs (talk) 16:01, 31 December 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Mrs. Forrest's name

[edit]

Nowhere in the novel does Mrs. Forrest get a first name, as far as I know, and I do not understand why this article gives her the name Muriel. Could someone please clarify? 108.15.39.43 (talk) 15:27, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Can't immediately find it in the text, but it must be there somewhere. The name appears in several independent discussions of the book, for example in this paper. MichaelMaggs (talk) 21:05, 19 August 2020 (UTC)[reply]
