True Blood

[edit]

Season 3, episode 10 of True Blood on HBO. The vampire Pam mentions that vampire Eric Northman owns a farm on Öland. I don't know how to edit pages properly but wanted to leave the tip. --70.191.118.46 (talk) 20:09, 24 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Naming

[edit]

Stumpled into this, and its seems that here is a double article made, and one of them should be delited or (even better, to prevent future errors) redirected...

Is the English name of the swedish island Öland: Oland or Öland? Dan Koehl 23:16 Dec 28, 2002 (UTC)
Merged the pages. The name should be Öland I think. At least when looking at the CIA Factbook map of Sweden. /RN
Yes, Öland is the correct name outside of Sweden as well. --Screensaver 11:23, 20 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Not an island according to the EU?

[edit]

Since September 9 EU has decided that Öland is not an island anymore because it has a connection to the mainland with the bridge. This is already reflected on the Swedish wikipedia page about Öland and it has a lot of articles in the news, but I couldn't find anything in English, so I don't know if I really should mention this just yet in the article? 193.11.163.169 (talk) 21:47, 9 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

What does the note mean? Why would it get an extra "share" (of what?) if it were classified as an island? This doesn't make any sense and I'm tempted to remove the note. Maybe there is some background missing? Cheers, Dusty|💬|You can help! 14:11, 26 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]
The EU has never ‘decided’ that Öland is not an island anymore. Öland was not eligible for a specific European subsidy some years ago because it failed some criteria (being unconnected to the mainland was one of them). This does not imply Öland is no longer ‘recognised’ as an island. I will remove the note because it indeed has no place in this article (it’s a hoax). — 37 (talk) 19:50, 19 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Merge proposal

[edit]

A new article titled Ports of Öland has been created. It says only that the port at Borgholm is the only one large enough for cruise ships. This isn't really enough for an article, so I propose that any verifiable information be merged into this article.

Semi-arid?

[edit]

Does Öland have a semi-arid climate (more specifically BSk)? The two Köppen climate maps above claim different things, but none of them claim that Öland actually has a semi-arid climate – it's either continental or oceanic. Querii (talk) 19:07, 7 December 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Sunshine hours

[edit]

This site here https://www.climatestotravel.com/climate/sweden/%C3%B6land quotes the sunshine hours at 2090 per year. Can somebody confirm the data here? Here it says 2560 hours which is way too much compared to any other number in Nothern Europe anywhere. It technically means it's sunny most of the time, even at winter, judging by the table on the article.

Oland redirects here... why?

[edit]

I think it's wrong that Oland redirects here, considering it isn't even the correct spelling and there is another island actually properly called Oland, as well as several people, a district and a company. I'd much rather see Oland redirect to the disambiguation page. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 77.61.180.106 (talk) 12:50, 23 November 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Massacre in Sandy Borg fortress isn't mentioned

[edit]

The article about Öland is not up to date. There is nothing written about the horrific massacre in the former Sandy Borg fortress. That should be added! https://www.world-archaeology.com/issues/the-sandby-borg-massacre/ (article July 25 / 2019) Historian, 12/2/2020 — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:1715:4E25:D030:3814:8457:88CA:34A (talk) 02:38, 2 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
