If anyone knows anything about this inequality's eponym, could they edit the first sentence to read as follows?

In mathematics, Muirhead's inequality, named after XXXXXXXXXXX (1842 - 1768 or whatever), generalizes the inequality of ETC., ETC., ...

I added the name and link. The extended bio is from the link at bottom left, a scanned obituary.Alice (talk) 22:24, 7 April 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No biography of Muirhead ?

[edit]

So a great inequality ( helps to solve almost any olympiad inequality ), but not a single page about its author on Wikipedia ?? I think he deserves at least a little biography ... —Preceding unsigned comment added by 196.206.97.192 (talk) 15:26, 21 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Suggest a rewrite

[edit]

I think this page could do with restructuring. All that stuff at the beginning about the a-mean and doubly stochastic matrices is irrelevant to readers who are interested in understanding and proving the standard form of Muirhead's inequality. I suggest that this content is moved to section near the end of the article.

See for example these links (the top ones on Google) - none of which mention doubly stochastic matrices. https://brilliant.org/wiki/muirhead-inequality/ https://artofproblemsolving.com/wiki/index.php/Muirhead%27s_Inequality http://mathworld.wolfram.com/MuirheadsTheorem.html

I would make the change myself but have tried similar things in the past and been shouted at by Wikipedians.
