Perhaps parties should be listed biggest to smallest instead of alphabetically. In that case, if we're talking about parties currently represented in parliament, the list should read PvdA, CDA, VVD, SP, GroenLinks, D66, LPF, ChristenUnie, SGP. I'd propose putting PvdA before CDA, based on persistent results from opinion polls, giving some 50 seats in parliament to PvdA, as opposed to 30-35 to CDA. Naming

[edit]

Why is the Partij van de Arbeid (Party of the Labour) translated as Labour Party and the Partij van de Dieren (Party of the Animals) translated as Party for the Animals. If we keep it simple it should be or the PvdA as Labour Party and then also the PvdD as Animal Party. Overal the translating of the diffrent names gives some strange situation like the Christian Union what for an English speaking person would look like a Trade Union for Christians instead of a party. Also in some ways the traditional Dutch name is used: 'Naastenliefde, Vrijheid & Diversiteit' and the Defunct Parties And in other ways the English translation is given: Parliamentary parties and 'Liveable Netherlands' What is the policy for this?--83.117.110.67 17:47, 10 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

The most important policy is that the articles on the English Wikipedia have English titles, as far as possible. See Use English.
As far as the Labour Party is concerned, its sister party in the UK, whose name she copeid when the PvdA was founded in 1946, is also called Labour Party. Furthermore the Party of the Labour is almost never used ("Party of the Labour" + Netherlands has 56 hits on google, while "Labour Party" + Netherlands has 589.000 hits).
I could write that Partij voor de Dieren should translated with Party for the Animals, and that therefore the analogy does not hold. But honestly you have a point. If you feel very passionate about the issue, take it up at its talkpage.
As far as the Christian Union is concernd, there was a debate about this on its talkpage. They decided no to move it. You could try to rekindle the discussion there, but I personally see no alternatives.
There are a number of dutch parties which have notices calling for moving, most importantly GroenLinks. I put some up myself, but moving is not among the most interesting or rewarding works on wikipedia, especially because you have to keep track of redirection pages in order to prevent bad redirects. But feel free to move pages to their right translation (after a discussion on the respective talk pages).

Incomplete list

[edit]

The article seems to be no more than a list of parties, and therefor I suggest to make it complete. For example, there are (and have been) a few moslim parties active in the Netherlands, even running for parlement. The AEL had, as in Belgium, the intention to run for parlement. These parties have been in the news and involved in political debats with members of the big parties (CDA, PvdA, etc). I suggest to include them or at least mention that the list is most likely incomplete. A non-moslim.

This list has two competing ends: the first is to provide an overview of all Dutch party articles on wikipedia. The second is to provide a complete list of all Dutch parties. I am inclined to pursue the first end because I think it is useless to provide a list of party names, because most of them would be red links and it would confuse a non-specialist to see which parties have been important and which are just flukes.

Consistency party colour coding

[edit]

In different tables, graphs and articles the Dutch political parties are given different colors. I would like to propose a standard list of RGB colours to use consistently. Please react to my proposal for consistent RGB colour scheme discussed at Talk:List_of_political_parties_in_the_Netherlands/colours. thanks for any input Arnoutf 17:36, 2 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Adding members

[edit]

I would like to suggest to add a member count for each of the parties on this page. Listing the members here show the potential 'kader' and 'volunteer' base of the parties; it also can be used to interpret the percentage actively involved people compared to the total population elligable to vote. (which can be derived from number of voters divided by turnout 9,854,998/0.804 (about 12 million) or from a direct source. Arnoutf 21:41, 15 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Youth movements

[edit]

What is the consequence of acknowledgement by the government for a youth organisation? If there is no consequence, why is it mentioned. If it has something to do with getting privileges/money I think that should be mentioned in the article. Arnoutf 16:25, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

False ideology for GeenPeil

[edit]

I would like to note that Right-wing populism does not really describe the intentions of GeenPeil, infact, they cant be left either, they are entirely bound to the things party members vote on. --213.93.210.166 (talk) 20:36, 10 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Updating FVD

[edit]

Would it be okay if I changed the position of the FVD from Right-Wing to Far-Right to just Far-Right? The main page has already discussed and changed that. Kalebop1 (talk) 19:27, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Yes as per main page Shadow4dark (talk) 20:15, 10 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Cheers! I updated it. Kalebop1 (talk) 12:14, 11 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Move discussion in progress

[edit]

There is a move discussion in progress on Talk:List of political parties in Abkhazia which affects this page. Please participate on that page and not in this talk page section. Thank you. —RMCD bot 16:28, 29 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Drop the general overview

[edit]

Can we drop the general overview? It's a lot of text for a "list". Most of it is already covered in other articles and I would recommend readers to look it up, so we don't duplicate our efforts. Dajasj (talk) 15:36, 9 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]
