I'm introducing standard template headings for this discussion page and the article as a whole. Can people please insert message within the appropriate section. Thank you. Cosmopolitancats 09:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Introduction

[edit]

Correct error in introduction - Hale has never been a town. It is also south east of Altrincham, not south. (Bowdon is south) Cosmopolitancats 09:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC) Removed edit from unidentified person suggesting that three particular roads are notable. Besides being an opinion and unverifiable, placement in the introduction is incorrect. I'm not sure there is anyway that any road can be identified as notable as people will doubtless have different opinions - and wikipedia isn't about opinion. This is the section in which any comments about economic wealth should goCosmopolitancats 09:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I found the "class" statistics fascinating. I know that the English are obsessed with class, but how do they decide who is working class and who is middle class, etc.? Certainly no-one's ever asked me what class I am.Ausseagull (talk) 22:34, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

VisionofBritain.org.uk (who publish the statistics) breaks down people by their occupation. In it's simplest form, "professionals" and "managers" are considered middle class, while "semi-skilled and unskilled manual laborors" are working class (more detailed explanations are given here [1] [2]). I too find these kind of statistics interesting, and the high proportion of middle class people fits in with what I thought of the area, especially when compared with somewhere like Sale. Present Day

[edit]

The subjective comment about wealth and the best roads to live on has been deleted. I've included a link to the Profile for Hale Central Ward on the Trafford MBC website. Please not include subjective comments. If you want to reference wealth and/or house prices please find an appropriate reference. Cosmopolitancats 10:09, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I put in a bit on St Peter's CofE, but there's no mention of the United Reformed Church down the road, nor of any Roman Catholic or Methodist church. Ausseagull (talk) 22:37, 5 May 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Local notables

see comment below by Nufftin

Include all references to footballers and Coronations Street actors here - does this need citation and are references up to date? Cosmopolitancats 09:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I've marked up all the named notables as requiring citation. I've checked all their wiki entries and not one of them identifies where they live. Footballers with the big clubs have always lived in Bowdon, Hale and Hale Barns - as have Coronation Street stars and I would have no problem with them being referred to in a generic sense - but names need citation of the source of this information. I therefore suggest now that if no citation is forthcoming that all named individuals are deleted from the 'local notables' section.Cosmopolitancats 01:54, 20 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Wayne Rooney? He lives in Prestbury!

You've sort of answered your own question. Nev1 14:42, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Nev! I've deleted all references to named individuals and maybe we could keep an eye on this for the future and work on the basis of named individuals only where some sort of citation is provided. Cosmopolitancats 16:09, 30 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Places of Interest

[edit]

Include War memorials? Cosmopolitancats 09:02, 10 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

OLD TALK ENTRIES

[edit]

Please can "...there is a range..." be kept? "...there are a range of good schools" is bad grammar (like "there are a plate of sausages").

IIf there is going to be a list of celebrities/athletes, can there either be a live link to another Wikipedia entry, or some short description of why they are famous? Otherwise non-Brits cannot gauge why it is important that they live in Hale. --Nufftin 14:06, 11 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Roy Keane

[edit]

Is Roy Keane still a resident of the area since his move to Celtic? -- hedpeguyuk May 24 8:20 (UTC)

Yes--Lo2u 12:37, 24 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, lucky him (I didn't mean that to sound sarcastic). I would assume that he must feel a great deal of affection for the area, which probably isn't suprising. --hedpeguyuk 22:00, 27 May 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Notable people

[edit]

Since the notable people section was completely unsourced I have removed the list here. Once references are provided, the names can be re-added to the article. Verifiability is important to wikipedia, so hearsay is not enough, reliable sources must be provided. Nev1 (talk) 16:16, 25 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Residents include a number of professional footballers, minor celebrities and people seen on television: Roy Keane, Dwight Yorke, Nicky Butt, Harry Kewell, Sally Whittaker, Fred Talbot, Craig Charles, Michael Le Vell, Russell Watson, James Beattie, Bryan Robson, Bernard Cribbins, Andrew Flintoff, and Wayne Brown.
