Lake Spence

[edit]

In the late 1990's The Lower Colorado River Authority (LCRA) by agreement with the Upper Colorado River Authority (UCRA) drained Lake Spence because of a drought in Central Texas. LCRA was unable to honor it's committment to Rice Farmers located above Victoria Texas. In essence Lake Spence, and other West Texas lakes were drained on authority of LCRA, depriveing Drought stricken West Texas of their resevoirs and recreational facilities.

Two good things about the water transfer: 1. West Texas water is brackish and has a high alkeline content, draining the lakes made room in the basins for cleaner rain water to mix with Colorado river water. 2. Central Texas was the recepient of millions of gallons of this bad water. Polluting Inks Lake (a favorite recreational lake of affluent State Senators and other Texas politicians)and other lakes in Central Texas.Perhaps, LCRA will think twice before confiscating our water again.
