Dr. Peter Jesuorobo Ighodaro
Early Life and Education Dr. Peter Jesuorobo Ighodaro was born on May 27, 1960, in Sapele, Delta State, Nigeria. He completed his elementary education at St. Jude’s Primary School in Mushin, Lagos, and his secondary education at Western Boys' High School in Benin City. Dr. Ighodaro holds a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Graphics from the University of Benin and a Higher National Diploma from Auchi Polytechnic in Edo State, Nigeria.
Dr. Ighodaro pursued advanced studies in art, earning two Master’s degrees: one in African Visual Art from the University of Ibadan and another in Art History from the University of Lagos. He later completed a Ph.D. in Industrial Design, specializing in Graphics, from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Career Dr. Ighodaro began his career in advertising, serving as an Art Director for Grant Advertising and Greenstones Advertising in Lagos. He transitioned into academia and has been a lecturer in graphics and art history at Yaba College of Technology in Lagos for over 23 years, reaching the rank of Chief Lecturer. His academic work primarily focuses on African visual art and graphic design.
In addition to his teaching responsibilities, Dr. Ighodaro has contributed to numerous research projects and has presented at various art and design conferences. His work has significantly impacted the fields of African art and graphic design in Nigeria.
Personal Life Dr. Ighodaro is married to Sidi Ofomeme (née Musa), a retired school counselor. They have two children: Adesuwa, a medical doctor based in Chicago, and Osazee, a technology professional in San Francisco.
Notable Contributions and Legacy Throughout his career, Dr. Ighodaro has been known for his contributions to art education in Nigeria and his advocacy for African visual arts.
