Wikipedia:Requests for page protection

Page semi-protected
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here.

Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection)

After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:Protectedpages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to get rid of obvious vandalism.

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request protection of a page, or increasing the protection level

Place requests for new or upgrading pending changes, semi-protection, full protection, move protection, create protection, template editor protection, or upload protection at the BOTTOM of this section. Check the archive of fulfilled and denied requests or, failing that, the page history if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement – This article covers an obviously highly controversial topic. The talk page even has a Arab-Israeli Arbitration Enforcement template yet the article itself has no protection. ―Howard🌽33 21:11, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Note: I don't really see that this falls under said arbitration enforcement...it is broadly construed, but not that broadly, and you would have to go from Arab via Nazi to Israel which didn't exist as a state during the time the article mainly covers; I was bold an removed the template. Lectonar (talk) 07:08, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Reason: WP:ARBPIA 69.118.230.235 (talk) 21:22, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

+1 Reason: ArbCom protection needed for PIA. Already a couple of reverts on the article. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:50, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Question: Any of these reverts involve non-WP:XC users? Please provide WP:DIFFs if so. El_C 18:21, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Several reverts, including from non-EC editors, involving EC (Israel-Palestine conflict) articles and news topics. Needs ArbCom EC protection. The Weather Event Writer (Talk Page) 23:44, 24 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Extended confirmed protected for a period of 6 months, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. As related content. El_C 18:27, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Indefinite extended-confirmed protection: Arbitration enforcement. Per WP:PIA, non ecp editor changing the name of Israel Wiiformii (talk) 02:21, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Already protected by administrator Fuzheado. El_C 18:27, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: The page is quite a hot topic in the US right now - I came from google to see what "DEI" actually meant and saw the page was recently vandalised and the talk page is quite heated. I've reverted the vandalism but I'd like to suggest locking the page to edits to prevent future vandalism. Pfych (talk) 02:36, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of one year, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. WP:AP2 flashpoint; i.e. most editing disputes and disruption, which is numerous. El_C 18:32, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism from various IP addresses since 02:33, 16 July 2024‎, making up various fictitious successor operating systems. Panian513 02:47, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 5 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 18:33, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Resumed IP-driven vandalism since the expiry of the last protection template on 04:34, 24 May 2024. Panian513 02:48, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Persistent vandalism from IPs since 00:53, 4 March 2024‎. Same vandal as the one targeting Bids for the 2036 Summer Olympics, with same methods. Panian513 02:51, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Persistent vandalism from random IPs which could possibly come from the same person since 00:37, 1 April 2024 or 23:44, 15 June 2024‎. Unexplained removal of sources from IP user. Shout4Serenity (talk) 03:00, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Way too much IPs and new accounts making unsourced edit requests. A big red box has been put up, but that doesn't seem to work. '''[[User:CanonNi]]''' (talkcontribs) 15:04, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 18:35, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. Isabelle Belato 🏳‍🌈 15:16, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: There is a LOT of rubbish from IPs and unconfirmed users going into this article right now, as it is a cricket tournament that is starting today. PKT(alk) 15:59, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

    Already protected by administrator Discospinster. Complex/Rational 18:47, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Multiple IP keeps removing unsourced content. Has been reverted by multiple editors. No communication from IPs. Mike Allen 16:33, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Semi-protected for a period of 2 weeks, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Elli (talk | contribs) 17:31, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Reason: Banned sockpuppet re-adding removed promotional material by making single purpose accounts, repeatedly. Awshort (talk) 17:07, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Fully protected for a period of 2 days, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. El_C 18:44, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – IP kept removing sourced content and sources and adds unsourced, including castecruft [1] [2] [3]. After a few warnings and a report to AIV, they apparently made a new account, and commenced with the same [4]. -. Fylindfotberserk (talk) 17:24, 25 July 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request unprotection of a page, or reducing the protection level

Before posting, first discuss with the protecting admin at their talk page. Post below only if you receive no reply.

    • To find out the username of the admin who protected the page click on "history" at the top of the page, then click on "View logs for this page" which is under the title of the page. The protecting admin is the username in blue before the words "protected", "changed protection level" or "pending changes". If there are a number of entries on the log page, you might find it easier to select "Protection log" or "Pending changes log" from the dropdown menu in the blue box.
    • Requests to downgrade full protection to template protection on templates and modules can be directed straight here; you do not need to ask the protecting admin first.
    • Requests for removing create protection on redlinked articles are generally assisted by having a draft version of the intended article prepared beforehand.
    • If you want to make spelling corrections or add uncontroversial information to a protected page please add {{Edit fully-protected}} to the article's talk page, along with an explanation of what you want to add to the page. If the talk page is protected please use the section below.

Check the archives if you cannot find your request. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Current requests for edits to a protected page

Request a specific edit to a protected page
Please request an edit directly on the protected page's talk page before posting here

Ideally, requests should be made on the article talk page rather than here.

    • Unless the talk page itself is protected, you may instead add the appropriate template among {{Edit protected}}, {{Edit template-protected}}, {{Edit extended-protected}}, or {{Edit semi-protected}} to the article's talk page if you would like to make a change rather than requesting it here. Doing so will automatically place the page in the appropriate category for the request to be reviewed.
    • Where requests are made due to the editor having a conflict of interest (COI; see Wikipedia:Suggestions for COI compliance), the {{Edit COI}} template should be used.
    • Requests to move move-protected pages should be made at Wikipedia:Requested moves, not here.
    • If the discussion page and the article are both protected preventing you from making an edit request, this page is the right place to make that request. Please see the top of this page for instructions on how to post requests.
    • This page is not for continuing or starting discussions regarding content should both an article and its discussion page be protected. Please make a request only if you have a specific edit you wish to make.
